Conan O'Brien On '60 Minutes': Comic Breaking His Silence
Conan O'Brien will break his silence on one of NBC's competitors.
The former "Tonight Show" host's exit agreement with NBC prohibits him from appearing on television until May 1; so on May 2, he will appear on CBS' "60 Minutes" for an interview with Steve Kroft.
The New York Times' Bill Carter reports the news, and adds that the interview "will center on the comic's comments about the fractious events surrounding his decision to leave NBC rather than accept having his show pushed back a half-hour to make room for Jay Leno to return to late-night television."
Conan is also contractually restricted from disparaging Jay Leno or NBC, but Kroft tells Carter that "he flirts with the restrictions."
Conan recently announced a deal to launch a late night show on TBS, a deal he is expected to discuss on "60 Minutes."
Carter notes one quirk with the "60 Minutes" interview: because Conan is unable to appear on TV until May 1, CBS will not be able to show his face to promote Sunday's interview.
"I think we'll just show me talking to him and have to blank his face out," Kroft told Carter.
Jeff Ireland: Dez Bryant Mother-Prostitute Question Showed 'Poor Judgment'
Dez Bryant, one of the most highly rated rated wide receivers in the 2010 NFL Draft, raised eyebrows last week when he told Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver that one team asked him a particularly bizarre question during an interview:
"They asked me if my mom's a prostitute," Bryant says, an account that was confirmed by Wells, who attended the meeting. "No, my mom is not a prostitute. I got mad - really mad - but I didn't show it. I got a lot of questions like that: Does she still do drugs? I sat and answered all of them."
Today, the identity of Bryant's questioner has been revealed. Silver reports that Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland extended the tasteless inquiry. According to ESPN Dallas, Ireland apologized to Bryant for using "poor judgment."
The question may have even outdone several other whoppers that were reportedly asked this year. Third overall pick Gerald McCoy says a team asked him whether he wears a G-string or jock strap. Rhodes scholar Myron Rolle was asked if he deserted his team by attending Oxford.
Verizon CANCELS Nexus One, Decides Not To Distribute Google Phone
SAN FRANCISCO — Google has scrapped its plan to sell a Nexus One phone that works on Verizon Wireless' network, the most widely used in the U.S.
The about-face announced Tuesday shrinks the potential market for the Nexus One, a mobile phone that Google unveiled to much fanfare in early January.
At that time, Google said a Nexus One compatible with Verizon's network would be coming in the spring.
Now Google is advising Verizon customers who wanted a Nexus One to buy a mobile phone called Incredible that's scheduled to go on sale Thursday. The Incredible is made by HTC and relies on Google's Android operating system, just like the Nexus One.
Google sells versions of the Nexus One that work on the U.S. wireless networks of T-Mobile and AT&T.
