In an interview with CNN's Sanjay Gupta on Tuesday, Fat Joe further opened up about his obesity and the diseases associated with it. The Bronx native revealed that he's now lost 100 pounds in an effort to maintain a healthy life.

He said, "I was talking to my trainer yesterday and he asked me, 'When was the last time you were slim?' I swear to God I think when I was a month or two months old. That was it, I was Fat Joe ever since." As a successful rapper, his lavish lifestyle led him to splurge on food, he explained. "[I felt like] 'I'm rich now. I can go to Mr. Chow's and eat all the steak and lobster I want.'"

But with the death of his biggest influence and friend Big Pun in 2000 as well as the deaths of six of his friends in the past year due complications with obesity, he said he felt his own life was in danger.

"I think I weighed about 450, 460 at my heaviest. I always took pride in being fat. That's why my name is Fat Joe. And I always represented for the big people. But I realized at a certain point all my big people were dying…My best, best, best, best friends don't even know this but I was diabetic for 16 years--since I was 14. And being that I lost weight [I have] no more diabetes."

Fat Joe's current weight stands at close to 250 pounds after the weight loss.

AC360 Anderson Cooper goes into hiding after being beaten

After two straight days of being attacked on the streets of Cairo, Anderson Cooper brought viewers his Thursday show from an undisclosed, dimly lit room, saying that he was "a little bit scared" for his safety.

Cooper was punched repeatedly and attacked for minutes by a mob of supporters of President Hosni Mubarak on Wednesday. On Thursday, another group of pro-government forces smashed a rock through his car window while he and his crew were in it. Cooper had been reporting from the Cairo streets, but by Thursday night he had gone to ground.

"I can't tell you where we are, frankly for our own safety," Cooper said. "Systematically, we have seen journalists attacked...we would like to be showing you instead of...this strange image of us sitting on the floor of an undisclosed location in dim lighting, we would like to be showing you pictures, live pictures, of what's happening in Liberation Square right now, but we can't do that because our cameras have systematically been taken down through threats, through intimidation, through actual physical attacks."

He continued, "I don't mind telling you I am a little bit scared, because we frankly don't really know what the next few hours will hold. And I think there's a lot of people who are scared tonight in Egypt."

Rick Sanchez Speaks for the First Time after humiliating Jewish Racial Slur

Nearly a week after making the controversial comments that got him fired from CNN, Rick Sanchez released a statement Wednesday apologizing for what he called "inartful," "tired and mangled" words that he said "were never intended to suggest any sort of narrow-mindedness and should never have been made."

In his statement, Sanchez said he had personally apologized to Jon Stewart, whom he called a "bigot" in his comments last week. He also said that he left CNN with "no hard feelings - just excitement about a new future of opportunities," and will continue on his current book tour.

On October 4th, I had a very good conversation with Jon Stewart, and I had the opportunity to apologize for my inartful comments from last week. I sincerely extend this apology to anyone else whom I may have offended.



As Jon was kind enough to note in his show Monday night, I am very much opposed to hate and intolerance, in any form, and I have frequently spoken out against prejudice. Despite what my tired and mangled words may have implied, they were never intended to suggest any sort of narrow-mindedness and should never have been made.


In the aftermath of these comments, CNN and I have decided to part ways. However, I want to go on record to say that I have nothing but the highest regard for CNN and for my six wonderful years with them. I appreciate every opportunity that they have given me, and it has been a wonderful experience working for them. I have tremendous respect for everyone there, and I know that they feel the same about me. There are no hard feelings -- just excitement about a new future of opportunities.

I look forward to my next step with great anticipation.

Organizations that never Left New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina

When u belong to a community like New Orleans all u need is hope and support, Those of u from 3rd world countries know what I'm talking bout, Many organizations come and go, So it means a lot when some stay and help u after the camera's have Gone.

Make It Right

Brad Pitt promised families he visited in New Orleans to rebuild and to stay dedicated to the area long after the cameras were gone. Make It Right has been building storm-resistant, green homes for families who lost everything.

St. Bernard Project


Co-founded in 2006 by Zack Rosenburg and Liz McCartney (CNN's 2008 Hero of the Year), the St. Bernard Project helps rebuild homes and provides mental health care for individuals still struggling with the economic emotional stress left in Katrina's wake. On the fourth anniversary of Katrina, President Obama praised the St. Bernard Project and their continuing work in the region.

Habitat For Humanity

Over 100,000 people have volunteered to rebuild homes in New Orleans through Habitat For Humanity since Hurricane Katrina. They've built new homes for over 300 families and are still seeking donations to keep their programs running for years to come.

ASPCA

The Louisiana chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has provided aid to pet owners since the disaster and prepares them to take care of their little friends during a disaster. Since the oil spill, the Louisiana SPCA has raised money to care for animals who've been relinquished by their owners, a trend that has increased in the tough economy.

Catholic Charities

In the above video, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans boasts that it's distributed $55 million in direct assistance and 250 million pounds of food. They say they're not first responders, but "forever responders."

HandsOn New Orleans

HandsOn programs were established in New Orleans and Mississippi after Katrina and Rita (with a grant from the previously mentioned CNCS. Tens of thousands of volunteers have since given over 500,000 hours of time to a diverse range of projects: from engaging young leaders in volunteer projects to helping out in local libraries.
