Wifey Tells Becks We Need to Cut Back

Living the high life may have finally caught up to the Beckhams.

According to a report in the Sun Friday, David and Victoria laid off roughly a third of their employees after a mortified account told them "you're pouring money down the drain."

The Beckhams, who retained a staff of 50, let 14 people go.

According to reports, the accountant had been hired at the behest of Victoria, who had become worried that the couple's lavish lifestyle was "inappropriate at a time when ordinary people were tightening their belts." The Beckhams have homes in England, L.A., France and Dubai.

As for who got the axe, apparently six out of seven gardeners at their estate in the South of France were laid off. The Beckhams are said to be worth around $200 million.

At least David Beckham can take solace in the fact that he remains the highest paid player in MLS, according to the latest salary list.
